PAN & Aadhaar Validator

Toolsda's PAN & Aadhaar Validator checks a PAN's 10-character format and an Aadhaar's 12-digit Verhoeff checksum entirely offline — no government API, no database lookup. It can also mask an Aadhaar number for sharing. The number you enter is validated by the rules in this tab and never sent anywhere.

What is PAN Card?

PAN (Permanent Account Number) is a unique 10-character alphanumeric identifier issued by the Income Tax Department of India. It's mandatory for financial transactions above ₹50,000, filing income tax returns, and opening bank accounts. The PAN format follows NSDL (National Securities Depository Limited) rules: 5 letters + 4 digits + 1 letter.

Aadhaar Masking Guidelines (UIDAI 2018 Circular)

As per UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) guidelines issued in 2018, it is mandatory to mask Aadhaar numbers when sharing. The masked format shows only the last 4 digits: XXXX-XXXX-1234. This protects privacy while allowing verification of the last 4 digits. Never share full 12-digit Aadhaar on public platforms, emails, or websites.

Verhoeff Algorithm for Aadhaar Validation

Aadhaar numbers use the Verhoeff algorithm for checksum validation. This algorithm detects all single-digit errors and most transposition errors. Our validator implements the complete Verhoeff algorithm with multiplication table (d), permutation table (p), and inverse table to ensure accurate validation as per UIDAI specifications.

Bank Account Number Validation

Indian bank account numbers typically range from 9 to 18 digits, with most banks using 11-16 digits. Each bank has specific formats:

  • State Bank of India (SBI): 11 digits
  • HDFC Bank: 14 digits
  • ICICI Bank: 12 digits
  • Axis Bank: 15-18 digits (typically 16)
  • Punjab National Bank: 14 digits (typically)
